Before a night out, I joked with my boyfriend that I should put a necklace around his neck with TAKEN written on it, just to make sure everyone got the message.
We laughed about it, forgot about it, laughed about it again and a few months later I surprised him with a bracelet instead.
One side simply read TAKEN. On the other, three meaningful stones represented our story. It wasn't meant to be serious. It was an inside joke turned into something he could wear every day.
Then something unexpected happened. He started wearing it every day, got me one made as well, and talked about it to all our friends. (Not so unexpected when you know him.)
